Why Safety is the Ultimate Spiritual Practice
In the spiritual and wellness community, we talk a lot about "stepping into your Divine Feminine." We envision ease, magnetism, and flow. But there is a biological prerequisite for that magnetism that often gets ignored: Safety. You cannot be truly magnetic if your body is trapped in a state of protection. This is why understanding the link between feminine energy and nervous system regulation is the most important spiritual practice you can adopt this year.
The Biological Truth of Feminine Flow
When we talk about the "Divine Feminine," we are talking about a state of being where you feel curious, patient, and connected. Biologically, this is your body in its most regulated state. When your nervous system feels safe, your heart rate is steady, your breath is deep, and you are open to the world around you.
However, many of us spend our lives in a state of "pushing." We are either frantic and anxious (the "Fight or Flight" response) or we are so overwhelmed that we feel numb and exhausted.
Trauma - whether it’s a major life event or the "micro-stress" of modern life—isn’t a mental illness. It’s a functional injury. It replaces your natural state of connection with a chronic state of protection. When you are in protection mode, you are closed off. You aren't magnetic; you’re guarded.
The Barrier of Inflammation
Research shows that women are more susceptible to chronic inflammation. There is a direct link between a stressed nervous system and physical inflammation. When your body is inflamed, it creates a physical and energetic barrier between you and your intuition.
During my own "inflammation experiment," I realised that I wasn't "uninspired"—I was just inflamed. After my gut health was destroyed in Bali, I stripped my life back to 7 basic ingredients (chicken, sweet potatoes, avocado, and simple greens). By lowering the physical stress on my body, I cleared the path for my feminine energy to return. I didn't "find" my magnetism; I regulated my way back to it.
How to Re-align Through Regulation
1. Honour Your Natural Cycles
You are a cyclical being. Your capacity to handle stress fluctuations throughout the month is based on your hormones. A masculine, linear "January Reset" ignores this reality. True feminine power is knowing when you have the capacity to expand and when you need deep, restorative rest.
2. Somatic Release
When we feel "stuck," that stress energy is often literally trapped in our tissues. Making sound, humming, or even gentle swaying helps discharge that energy. It tells your body that the "battle" is over and it’s safe to return to the present moment.
3. Build from a Place of Safety
Stop trying to "heal" from a place of burnout. Lasting change only happens when we feel safe. Focus on the tiny, daily rituals that make you feel settled. This is the heart of feminine energy and nervous system regulation.
Your magnetism is a byproduct of your safety. When you stop forcing yourself into someone else’s routine and start honouring your own rhythm, the flow happens naturally.
