I'm Done With the New Age — And I Have Never Felt More Peaceful

For seven years, I did everything the New Age told me to do. Gratitude journals. Moon ceremonies. Manifestation scripts. Chakra meditations. I was searching for answers everywhere except where they actually were.

I thought I had energy blocks. I actually had a dysregulated nervous system stuck in functional freeze.

If you have been on a similar path — years of spiritual seeking that left you more stuck, not less — this is what I wish someone had told me. And if you have been searching for something like leaving New Age for God, you are not alone.

What Was Actually Happening in My Body

Here is what was really going on: functional freeze. A blended nervous system state where your sympathetic system (gas pedal) and dorsal vagal system (brake) are activated simultaneously. You are productive on the outside. Numb on the inside. Moving forward but completely stuck.

Externally, I was building a multi-million-pound business, creating content, appearing successful. Internally, I felt nothing. Could not settle into my accomplishments. Could not rest. Could not hold the good things I was creating.

This state is called tonic immobility. High muscle tone, high tension, but immobilised. Your nervous system does not feel safe enough to fully mobilise or fully collapse. So it does both. You end up frozen while appearing functional.

No amount of gratitude journaling, positive affirmations, or manifestation practices can regulate a nervous system stuck in this state. You have to go into the body. That is where the actual work happens.

Why Going to the Creation Instead of the Creator Kept Me Stuck

Here is the realisation that changed everything for me.

Praying to "the universe" felt like asking for a promotion from someone who never let me speak to the person in charge. I was going to the creation instead of the Creator. Asking the moon, the stars, the energy field to give me what only God could give me.

The seeking kept me busy. Gave me tasks. Made me feel like I was progressing. But I never actually felt satisfied. Never felt safe enough to hold what I was asking for.

When I finally went directly to God, everything shifted. Not because God is some external force I had to convince. But because surrendering to the Creator instead of the creation changed my nervous system. I stopped trying to control outcomes. Stopped grasping. Stopped searching for the next healing modality that would finally fix me.

I realised I was not broken. My body was exhausted from years of survival.

Why Does Nervous System Regulation Create What Manifestation Cannot?

Here is what the New Age does not tell you: you do not attract what you want. You attract what your body feels safe to hold.

I could script a million-pound business into my journal. But if my nervous system was stuck in freeze, I could not actually receive it. Could not enjoy it. Could not rest into it.

Manifestation without nervous system regulation is like pouring water into a cup with holes in it. You can pour all day. Nothing stays.

The work is not raising your vibration. The work is building your capacity to hold safety. And that happens through somatic practices, EFT, and genuine surrender — not moon ceremonies.

When your body feels safe, you become naturally present. Grounded. Open. Not because you are performing spirituality. But because you are regulated. Your nervous system has the capacity to hold what you are creating.

This is what I teach now through Soulla Collective. Science-backed [nervous system regulation](/ebook) grounded in how God designed your body. Not spiritual bypassing. Not toxic positivity. Actual tools that build safety in your system.

What Did Peace Actually Feel Like After Years of Seeking?

The peace I feel now is nothing like what I was chasing in the New Age. It is quieter. Less dramatic. More real.

It came from getting into my body. From understanding the science of why I was stuck. From addressing the physical foundations — gut health, ferritin, hormonal balance — that were keeping my nervous system in survival mode. From using EFT to metabolise the emotions I had been bypassing with gratitude practices. From mapping my nervous system through my cycle and learning to work with my biology instead of overriding it.

And from surrendering to God in a way that was completely different from anything the New Age offered. Not transactional. Not performance-based. Not about earning alignment. Just existence. Just being loved without having to prove anything.

That is what built real safety in my nervous system. And from that safety, everything else became possible.

There is nothing wrong with you. Your nervous system is just stuck. And it can be regulated — not through seeking, but through science, surrender, and coming home to the body God gave you.

If you are ready to go deeper, the How to Get Your Spark Back ebookwalks you through the daily somatic micro-practices that actually move your nervous system from survival to safety. And our Marrakech retreat in October is designed for women who are ready to do this work in community — five days of somatic practice, creative expression, and genuine rest in a held container.

FAQ SECTION:

Q: Why does manifestation not work for some people?

A: Manifestation practices cannot override a nervous system stuck in functional freeze. When your body has learned that receiving equals danger, it will block, sabotage, or push away the very things you are trying to attract — regardless of how perfectly you script them. The nervous system needs to regulate and build capacity to receive before manifestation-style practices can produce lasting results.

Q: Is leaving the New Age the same as leaving spirituality?

A: Not at all. Many people who leave New Age practices find that their spiritual life deepens rather than diminishes — particularly those who return to a relationship with God. The shift is from seeking externally (planets, energy, rituals) to grounding internally (body, faith, science). It is not less spiritual. It is more honest.

Q: What is the difference between functional freeze and burnout?

A: Burnout is typically about exhaustion from overwork and can be addressed with rest and boundaries. Functional freeze is a deeper nervous system state where your body has shut down its capacity for pleasure, joy, and genuine feeling. You can recover from burnout and still be in functional freeze — which is why rest alone often does not resolve the flatness, numbness, and disconnection.

Q: Can faith help regulate your nervous system?

A: Yes. From a neuroscience perspective, unconditional love — the kind that requires no performance, no earning, no proving — activates the ventral vagal system and promotes oxytocin production. Many women find that a genuine relationship with God provides the kind of safety signal that their nervous system needs to begin releasing years of stored survival energy.
